finding demon (didgeridoo solo demo cd)

After almost seven years of playing…
My perfectionism (the evil character in this play) stepped back so that the story’s voice (the good guy in this play) could be heard.

One afternoon, in one improvised studio comprised of everything that could be found in the wrong place at the wrong time, three pieces plus a few additional were recorded. Vanja Valavanja patiently recorded my playing in one long stretch of hours…..and after that followed a long week of remixing. In the end, the good souls of Didgiland came over to hand make CD covers. The demo CD was done in less than one week.
Three basic compositions were recorded, plus a few additional ones.
These extra compositions were recorded as a bonus to the CD, and will be replaced by others when future generations of demo CDs will be recorded.

The purpose of my demo CD is to at least partially raise money for recording a “real” CD. So by buying this CD, you are helping one man and one pipe, who present themselves as Circus of the Wind, find their niche in the world of music….or maybe a little next to it…on an improvised stage, in front of a public coming from a world without prejudice.

Circus of the Wind presents the following stories in the demo CD:

1. tandori masala

Tandor ima sala?

zbog začina
        na sto načina...
oni su žrtve! proguta ih splačina.
osim u zvuku, začin nigdje da se skrije

This is the youngest composition on the CD. It is called Tandori Masala after Svilko’s favorite spice, and differs from the other two pieces that are far more rhythmically stronger.

2. tales from long ago

otvorena kaspija priča iz davnina
ritam mnogih nogu, gazi te živina.
8 dana, 15 noći
um ti gubi na jasnoći.
tako dok ne shvatiš kako
noge idu naopako.

The story in this piece captures my interpretation of all stories from long ago. Stories abundant with characters and figures. And traits. It begins with knocking on the Caspian. Caspian is the same Caspian from where the Caspian Sea arose from, later to be distorted by folk into the CAPIJA. When the Caspian opens, characters rumble out, trampling me. They trample me and stomp on me in their long forgotten rhythm, flinging me about. I fail to keep up. They are faster, larger, stronger, and wittier than me. But in these stories, such characters don’t win. What’s most important in such stories is doing the right thing at the right time. And that solves the problem no matter what it is. A pinch of courage. A pinch of truth. Or maybe just a pinch. And finally, something starts happening to the rhythm, some things by feet from the characters of long ago, that seem longer and longer ago. 3. stinkirum

svi moji jadi
ovdje sad su smradi.
ali zvuci...
nisu na muci.
jer sve lagano ovdje samo svira,
što je na podu, to se ne dira!

Stinkirum was created in a large empty room of some abandoned barracks near Pula. That room was a cocktail for odors. Everything imaginable was found there. I remember seeing little dead birds on the tile floor, near the middle of the room. I sat at the entrance for hours on and played. Because the room was like another instrument, it was acoustically perfect. Like two parallel worlds within. One heavy and smelly, the other light and sonorous. It then came to me; I need to be light in order to lift myself from that thick odor. I began moving the space about me with my tube, and the room transformed. While I was light in my thoughts, I only listened and enjoyed my newly formed world. When these thoughts would return from the light world to the stinky room, they would become heavier, and would collapse into the room and join the smell. Stinkirum is played on a C didge of hornbeam wood that I made for myself for my 26th birthday. As if I new...
